need 假如后接复合宾语，一般宾语需要是人，即need somebody to do something. 本句中，needed的宾语为this fiasco，所以假如把it理解为虚指代词，指“状况”，则不定式不可能是目的状语，由于to tip的逻辑主语不可能是“状况”。且宾语为事物，不定式也不适合剖析为宾补。所以我觉得这个句子最好把it 剖析为形式主语，不定式短语作外置主语。这种讲解没漏洞。
